Jordan’s “Wasel for Awareness and Education” Receives Recognition from UNAOC-BMW Group’s Intercultural Innovation Hub

BERLIN, GERMANY / ACCESSWIRE / May 25, 2023 / “Wasel for Awareness and Education”, based in Jordan, is one of ten global grassroots initiatives recognized by the prestigious Intercultural Innovation Hub, a joint initiative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the BMW Group, implemented with the support of Accenture, during a ceremony held in Berlin, Germany.

The organization was selected for its project “Shabbek Wa Bader”, which aims to break cultural and socio-economic barriers by fostering interconnection and mutual understanding among youth from diverse backgrounds. The initiative seeks to deconstruct the “victim-and-hero” mentality in volunteer work and instead create community cohesiveness by partnering students from private and public high schools and engaging them in a collaborative approach to community organizing and project management training throughout the academic year. Through mutual understanding and dialogue, they are then able to collaboratively create more robust solutions for the communities they serve.

“Mutual understanding and cooperation among Jordanian youth strengthen our ability to develop more sustainable solutions in our society. We are honored to receive the recognition and support of Intercultural Innovation Hub in promoting more youth leadership and developing community-driven solutions to issues in our communities,” said Lynn Malkawi, Founder and Director of Wasel for Awareness and Education.

Every year, the Intercultural Innovation Hub supports grassroots initiatives that promote intercultural dialogue and understanding, thereby contributing to peace, cultural diversity, and more inclusive societies. This year, the Ceremony was chaired by Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and the High Representative for UNAOC, and Ms. Ilka Horstmeier, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG People and Real Estate, Labour Relations Director.
